Language Instruction: Abroad vs. In-Person
For students, especially international students who lived in different time zones, the pandemic has completely changed their academic experience. But what about professors? More specifically, what were the experiences of professors who taught not just off-campus but abroad in their home countries? To answer these questions, we dedicated this episode of the podcast to explore the story of a Korean language professor at Emory who has navigated through both online and in-person teaching during the pandemic.
In her online semester in Korea, Professor Yoojin had difficulty encouraging students to speak Korean and gauge interest from students’ eyes. This challenge has even led her to reflect back on the basics of education. However, during the in-person learning this semester, she was surprised and hopeful to see immense improvement in student engagement.
