[Sorry, I had thought I had set this post to publish automatically on Friday of last week, but I made a mistake and set it to publish on the subsequent Friday.]

In class on Tuesday, we’ll spend some time analyzing these two media analysis essays. Henry Jenkins has been a professor of media and communication for a very long time, first at MIT and then at the U of Southern California. He’s written books about cosplayers and other sorts of what he calls “participatory culture” and on the ways in which media and culture contribute to and are tools for civic engagement and social change. He’s a super smart and prolific critic of new media. Ian Bogost used to be a professor at Georgia Tech and was central to the Human Computer Interaction department there. He’s recently moved to a position as Professor and Director of the Program in Film & Media Studies and Professor of Computer Science & Engineering at Washington University in St. Louis. He’s also a contributing editor at The Atlantic, where you might have seen his essays about games and popular culture and a game maker himself, including the hit parody game Cow Clicker. He’s one of the most prominent philosophers of video games.

For Thursday, I want you to listen to a second podcast. We’ll wrap up any leftover discussion of Jenkins and Bogost, discuss the podcast, and begin to make plans for our own podcast series.

Notice that you’ve got two assignments due this week too.
